L-arginine
L-arginine is a food supplement, suitable for people practicing strength sports and for those practicing endurance sports, and especially for l-arginine deficiency in the organism.
L-Arginine is an amino acid, which is used in the organism for urea production. This is a process by which the toxic ammonium is eliminated from the body. L-Arginine is essential for the synthesis of creatine, a compound which is associated with the transfer of phosphate residues for ATP synthesis. In healthy people the l-arginine is produced adequately to the needs. In cases with a malnutrition, an excessive ammonia production, increased intake of the amino acid lysine, infection, burns, sepsis, peritoneal dialysis and fast growing, the synthesis of arginine in the organism may be insufficient.
The arginine is a the key substance for the synthesis of nitric oxide (NO) in the endothelial cells of blood vessels. By the activation of the enzyme guanilate cyclase and by following production of cGMP, the NO causes vasodilation. Therefore the application of the amino acid l-arginine as a food supplement stimulates the so called endothel-dependent vasodilation and improves the blood circulation is some regions in the body, inc. in skeletal muscles.
The l-arginine participates in the protein synthesis in the organism. It supports the tissue healing, muscle building, the spermatogenesis, the process of elimination of some waste products.
The NO obtained as a result of l-arginine supplementation has also an antiatherogenic effect. It inhibits the adhesion of mononuclear cells, the thrombocytes aggregation, and the proliferation of smooth muscle cells in wall of the blood vessels.
The l-arginine's antioxidant effect is associated with suppression of the process of oxidation of the low density lipoproteins (the first step of the atherogenesis chain). The l-arginine has an immune-modulating effect - it increases the quantity and the activity of the natural killer cells and limphokin-activated killer cells. This makes it suitable for enteral application in cases of burns, sepsis, trauma. The l-arginine also activates the collagen biosynthesis.
